Cannot Boot XP Home
Posted by tkutil on April 28th, 2008

I found out the hard way that XP home does not allow Dynamic Disks, although
it surely let me go ahead and trash my disk. Is there any way to get the
information of the drive. I had room on the disk to install XP Pro, but I
still cannot get to the drive. Disk Manager shows Disk 0 as "untreadable". I
tried recovery console and got no where. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Can you mount it as a data drive in another computer or in an external drive
enclosure?

It's a laptop drive. I could look for an external enclosure and try that.

There's an adapter that will connect a laptop drive to a desktop IDE cable:

"This adapter allows you to convert a notebook hard drive for use into a desktop
system. With the Laptop Hard Drive Adapter, you can easily connect your 2.5in
notebook IDE hard drive to a 40-pin IDE cable for installation in a desktop or tower
PC."
