Cannot Export Full Registry
Posted by Paul Richards on September 24th, 2005

When I try to export all branches of my registry as a .reg file to my desktop
I get the following error message: Error writing file. There may be a disk
or file system error. I seem to be able to export a selected branch, but not
the whole registry. Please could someone advise? Please note, saving other
files to the desktop is not a problem.

Registry has access permissions (like folders & files). Users have
rights to read many keys but writing may be reserved for system accounts
so using regedit it's not possible to make the whole registry backup.
There are tools like system restore for making such backups. ;-)

But I am logged in as Admin...Shouldn't that give me full rights?
