cannot install newer version

just got an HP refurb, and it's loaded with XP Home. I'm trying to install
my XP Pro, and it's telling me the version on there is newer, without giving
me the ability to continue (just makes me cancel). Any ideas how to get
around this? Quite frankly, I'd like to simply reformat the hard drive if I
can, but would like to know both the way to just install over the current
version, and also wipe clean. Any help?

You would need to slipstream your copy of XP Pro with Service Pack 2.
