- can't charge battery
- Posted by cj runner on January 29th, 2006
I can't seem to charge my battery. I leave my laptop plugged in and the
battery icon is green for a while, then flashes red. I don't know what that
means, but I've never had seen more than 30% battery charged.

It's probably dead/faulty. Who knows without an age, brand or anything
distinctive mentioned. If it's under warranty, contact the manufacturer
or check for a BIOS update that might be relevant. Otherwise, get a new one.

I believe it's a safe bet that you need a new battery. I've
heard similar stories, and it's usually been "new battery
time."
Good luck!

Your computer may be a month old, that is, it may; have been
in your hands for a month. That doesn't mean it hasn't been
on a shelf in a box for several years.
If the computer is a month old, then likely, the battery is
still under warranty, which is good for you.
Take the computer/battery back to where you got it, or
perhaps to a local licensed repair shop (many mfgs allow you
to go to your nearest outlet if it's under warranty), and
have the whole thing checked.
VERY likely, you'll get a brand new battery that has been
bench-checked, and you'll get apologies.
(since you just bought a computer, they are counting on you
to buy more stuff, so they will want to keep you happy)
(and be nice in here; most folks in here are nice and
helpful.)
Good luck!

It means that you need to contact the manufacturer of the laptop for
assistance with a hardware problem.

Try getting some warranty support from the manufacturer, then. this is
clearly a hardware problem.

In that case get a battery from the manufactuer under warranty. Your battery

It may also not be the battery. I just had something similar happen with
our Dell Inspiron. It was the charger board on the motherboard. The
newness of the hardware is irrelevant; in fact, if hardware is going to
fail it will usually do so pretty quickly after you buy it. Your laptop
is under warranty - have the company fix it.

Did you read the manual? Remove the battery, power the unit up by adapter,
then power down. Replace the battery and let it charge. Or if you have the
time, use the battery conditioner in the BIOS.
