- Cant even boot in Safe mode
- Posted by lauraqto on October 16th, 2005
For some reason, I cannot boot up my xp today. When I on the pc, it will
starts and the xp logo will appeas and indicator light will go from left to
right and later restart itself.
When I press F8, it will give me the menu and when I choose 'safe mode', it
will load all the drivers and the last line .....drivers\mup.sys and then it
will restart as if it is in normal mode. The same thing happen if I choose
the Last Known Configuration.
I have Norton 2005 and updated weekly. It was working ok yesterday and I
shut down as per normal. Any idea what shall I do?

When you can not get in with safe mode and there's no more specific
information given then the best option is to usually do a repair
installation:

Hi,
Try "Safe mode with command prompt", see if it will boot this mode. If so,
run the rstrui.exe file from C:\Windows\system32\repair to start the System
Restore GUI. Otherwise, you may need to do as Galen has suggested and run a
repair installation.

If you have access to another computer here is a site i found & this
person made a nice script for loading Xp, 2000 etc. Here is the link,
download it to a floppy & follow his instructions. It has saved me a
few times. Best of luck. Its a shame M$ doesnt have the ideas many IT
people do or they just dont care what they sell you. Most of their
articles online are garbage & useless. Copy & paste this link in your
browser & follow his instructions.
