Can't Install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1
Posted by dnamertz on January 13th, 2006

When I try to install the update "Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack
1" am getting a message saying it can't find ‘netfx.msi’ and when I cancel
that I get a "SLxxx.tmp – Common Language Runtime Debugging Services" error.

I tried running the "Dotnetfx.exe" file in the .NET Framework
redistributable package folder, and double clicked on it. It took me through
the installation of the MS .Net Framework 1.1 Package, which was successufl.
But, I still can't find the
Netfx.msi file anywhere on my computer. Is it supposed to be there? Do I
need this file to install MS .Net Framework 1.1 For SP1? Before I waste any
more time on this, do I even need MS .Net Framework 1.1 For SP1 before I
install Service Pack2?

See this link. In particular look at the response by Pat.

Here is a tiny url to that link: http://tinyurl.com/b2gac

I followed Pat's steps in that link, and like another person on that site, I
had a problem on step 9. On step 9, I also got the "INVALID SWITCH ERROR. I
tried emptying my TEMP folder, and reinstalling Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 1.1 again but this time when the Windows Installer screen comes up,
it just stays on the screen and about every 2 seconds the window flickers and
starts over, this continues constantly every two seconds like it in a endless
loop.

Why won't the installation complete? Again, I am preparing to install SP2
so is Microsoft .NET Framework Version 1.1 even something I need to worry
about? I've wasted enough time on trying to install it...do I need it?
Installing SP2 better not be this difficult.

The .net framework is only needed if a program on your system requires
it, and if it does that program's install should tell you. Otherwise,
no. If you want to follow up on this I would suggest you post to the
windows update newsgroup.
