- Clean install of XP Pro and new HD, and motherboard s l o w XP now
- Posted by Steve C - Ohio on October 18th, 2005
My Dell 2,8Ghz, 1Gb memory, Pentium, had to haave the hard drive replaced,
and windoze XP Pro reinstalled, by a Dell service "tech". Sinec then, I have
noticed a serious degradation in the system performance! I have AdAware SE,
CA AntiVirus, and Spyware Doctor installed and checked daily. S t i l l s l
o w !! I have checked Task Manager and it shows a lot of Processes running,
but I am not real sure what they all are, and am afraid to change anything.
Any suggestions, at all , would be greatly appreciated! I'll try almost
anything to get my performance back. I am also running Disk Cleanup daily,
and Defrag FWIW.

Steve
Download and run SpyBot S&D, SpywareBlaster and CWShredder too.. run all of
the anti-spyware programs in 'safe' mode..

It's very difficult to help with so little information. Exactly
*which* process are running? Also which applications are running?
Despite what anti-spyware programs you're running, spyware would
be my first guess for the problem.

I'd first make sure "Fast User Switching" and "Indexing Sevice" are shut off.
They each use up a lot of power. Go to "Black Viper"s site for information on
how to set up the various services.

OK, I ran them all, and have not noticed a big difference, with no major
issues found. I did uninstall Windows XP Plus! and it seemed to help more.
WHen I get back home to my PC, I'll post aq list of the programs that are
running, per Paul's request, to see if that may be a big part of the problem
or not.
