Clearing DNS cache
Posted by Jim Madsen on January 9th, 2006

I have XP Home Edition. Over the weekend I has trouble connecting to a
web site -- today I could connect from work, but not at home. Suddenly
it started working again.

Question--it appeared to be a DNS problem (could not resolve host).
Does XP Home cache DNS, and if so how does one clear the DNS cache, or
turn DNS caching off?

From a command prompt: ipconfig /flushdns

Thanks Tom--

I did a search in XP Help, but could not find that tidbit of info.

I read somewhere that...
The default time period for keeping an address in the cache is 24 hours.

ipconfig /flushdns Purges the DNS Resolver cache.

Open a command prompt...
Start | Run | Type: cmd | Click OK |
Type or paste this in the command prompt window:

ipconfig /flushdns

Hit your Enter key.

To see ipconfig help, type or paste:

ipconfig /?

Hope this helps. Let us know.
