- Clicking on html link problem
- Posted by Edward Diener on April 13th, 2008
The file association for htm and html is set to Firefox, not IE, as my
browser. If I have an htm or html link on my desktop, and double-click
it, I occasionally get:
"There was a problem sending the command to the program."
but nonetheless the web page opens in Firefox.
Does anybody know why XP gives this message, and what I can do to
eliminate it ?

If you have a firewall allow Windows explorer access to trusted Zone but
not internet Zone!.
Like say allow access to 127.0.0.1 or assign 0.0.0.0 this usually solve the
problem.
Or if you set the Fox to ask for internet Access every time a web page
opened the Firewall will issue a warning that the Prog need access or you get
this warning.

Windows firewall is on but the access is to a web page on the local file
system. I do not see anything in Windows firewall that affects Windows
explorer.

You might need to repair the associations. Open Folder Options, File
Types, scroll down to, and highlight HTM, click Advanced, Open, Edit and
compare to my settings:
_HTM_
open
C:\PROGRA~1\MOZILL~1\FIREFOX.EXE -requestPending -osint -url "%1"
Use DDE
"%1",,0,0,,,,
Firefox
WWW_OpenURL
_HTML_
open
C:\PROGRA~1\MOZILL~1\FIREFOX.EXE -requestPending -osint -url "%1"
Use DDE
"%1",,0,0,,,,
Firefox
WWW_OpenURL
Or try the Associations Repair scripts for HTM and HTML here:
Fix File Associations.
