computer name confusion

Occasionaly whenever I reboot, the "computer name" that I chose for my pc
does not reappear on the logon screen. Instead, there is a generic name. It
seems that after logging on during these times, my access to automatic
updates from Mcafee doesn't work. I'm wondering if there's some kind of
identity problem regarding the 'computer name' that is negating my
identification to Mcafee. Any way to fix this 'computer name' issue?

Just the other day XP lost my Administrator Password. It was there
one day and gone the next. Then to add insult to injury, I thought that
I would try running sfc /scannow, no luck. I then rean a repair install
and then was locked out of my computer until I reactivated over the
phone. No I did not forget my password, I use the same root password
for 6 Linux distros and 3 windows.
