- Computer slows when connected to dial up

Hi,
I just bought an external dial up modem for my fiance because the internal
modem was shot.
The modem itself works just great, the problem I am having is every time she
gets connected to the internet, the computer slows to the point where she
can't even open internet explorer...
Any ideas?

Update the driver and see if that helps.

is it a usb modem ?
is it an old pc ?
