- Corrupt profile - new profile missing email settings
- Posted by vaughn on February 14th, 2006
I had a corrupt profile ("windows could not load your profile") and created a
new profile using the Microsoft KB article and copied the files from the old
profile to the new. The biggest kicker is Outlook. I cannot get my email
back. I copied the application data folder for microsoft/outlook from old to
new, but no luck.

You can try this:
* Find the location of the personal folders and note the path
* Close Outlook
* Go to the location on the local disk drive where the personal folder is
located and MOVE it to another location on the disk drive (like the desktop),
this will defrag the file.
* Add the personal folder back to the original location
* Remove & add the personal folder from outlook
If that doesn't work, try this:
* Find the location of the personal folders and note the path (again)
* Close Outlook
* Go to start/search/for files and folders and search for scanpst.exe
* Double click on scanpst.exe to open the application
* Click on Browse and maneuver to the location of the personal folder
* Click on Start to begin the Scan, when the scan is completed say YES if
prompted to repair the file

I managed to get the emails back, but there are several other problems. I had
a folder on my desktop for user A. when I created user B and copied the the
folder for documents and setting for user A to user B, I don't get all the
files. Is there a way to merge user profiles? I also didn't get all my email
accounts from user A.
