Crashing daily, same time: where to start?
Posted by George on February 13th, 2006

(XP Pro 5.1.2600, SP2)
The last 3 days, my PC has crashed (dark screen, no C-A-D) each evening at about
the same time. (I haven't been there, so I'm still trying to pin down the exact
time.) The event logs show nothing. AV (AVG Free) runs daily, says it's clean.
I have DSL, with a router; the firewall (Zone Alarm) log shows very few events,
none of them anywhere near the times of the crashes. The apps I run have not
changed during this time. The task scheduler appears to be empty, including
hidden tasks.

My plan is to cut back to on the apps, and see if one of them correlates with
the problem. Other than that, is there anything I can do? Is there some area
of the registry to look at, or some key to search for?

Any clues would be appreciated.

TIA,
George

Hi,

Are there any tasks scheduled to occur during that time frame? Otherwise,
I'd say your approach is correct.

I would certainly make an effort to be there about 1/2 hour before this
normally occurs, to see what may be happening. Your observations will help
you to determine the source of the problem.
