Creating Hotmail on Desktop
Posted by Helen Arnoldus on December 31st, 2005

I tried creating a Hotmail shortcut on the desktop (I also tried Yahoo and
other internet programs) on my husband's computer and get the following
message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for
performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control
panel". Why can't I do this?

Instead of relying on inbuilt associations, stay in control and
tell your PC what you really want, by creating a shortcut
like this one:

"C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" http://www.hotmail.com

How would I do that?

You create a new shortcut on your desktop and paste the line
I gave you into its Target field.

Go to http://www.hotmail.com > if necessary, resize the IE window so you can
see the desktop behind it > "grab" the blue icon at extreme left of
Addressbar (immediately in front of "http://www.hotmail.com") > drag the
icon to the desktop.
