- creative 5.1 problem
- Posted by Toby on October 25th, 2005
Hello,
Please help, this is driving me mad. A friend of mine had an issue with
various virii and trojans some of which he repaired, others I used Kaspersky and
Ewido on to remove said issues. The problem is some of his Creative SBlive 5.1
setup/drivers etc seem to have been corrupted. Each time the pc starts up there
is a Windows request display asking for certain creative dll's and WMD etc are
recognised by the system - but at least there is sound. However, after
downloading the supposed drivers and re-starting no sound can be heard, but the
request window doesn't pop up any more nor is the found new hardware message
displayed. He can't install his old drivers as he no longer has the cd, is there
an easy way of fixing this please, it is so frustrating?
I have been to the creative website, but it doesn't make it very clear
on which drivers to download, many many thanks for any help on this matter.

Try the `Soundblaster` site instead of `Creative`.

Toby,
I use Creative SoundBlasterLive and every time I reformat WinXP and then
reinstall my Creative Drivers my sounds are gone. I found this to be my
problem each time. Maybe you'll get lucky.
* 'Start', 'Control Panel' 'Sound & Audio Devices'
* click into 'Volume' tab > under heading 'Device Volume' click 'Advanced'
* click 'Advanced' button on the Volume interface >
* check box '1 Digital Output Only' > click Close

Toby,
If this doesn't work, can't you go into Device Manager > Sound, video & game
controllers (expand header) > right-click the driver > Properties > Driver
tab,
click 'Roll back Driver' to return to the previous driver without the CD?

Unfortunately that option isnt available
The soundblaster website is no better and the digital output check box does
nothing, I'm stumped, any more ideas please?

You will find a post to where you could download an ISO image of an original
SoundBlaster Live drivers CD.
