- D Drive not listed after boot until "scan for hardware changes" twice
- Posted by Hawk on December 30th, 2005
After loading XP Pro my CD drive or D drive is not listed under
explorer until I manually go to device manager , select "IDE ATA/ATAPI
CONTROLLERS" and then under action select "scan for hardware changes".
The first time I do this nothing changes. When I do it the second time
my D drive is suddenly listed correctly. The D drive had been working
correctly. I made a few changes by adding some software. This is my
first post to this group. I tried searching but haven't found the
answer. Thanks.
Also: I am using a Sony DVD RW DRU-500A version 2.1a as my D drive.
It is connected to my Primary IDE Master. I have 5 harddrives in this
computer. I have a P4P800-E motherboard

If not TweakUI, is Logical Disk Management [Administrative Tools>Services]
set on Manual? (First attempt would start the service; 2nd would identify
disk.) Try Automatic (Start Type), or look in your BIOS. D & CDrom may be set
to Not Installed.

Thanks for the response. I don't think TweakUi is installed. I
checked the control panel and it is not listed. I don't think that I
have ever used it.

Daniel,
Thanks for the reply. I couldn't find TweakUi under the control panel.
When I look at Logical Disk Manager I see that Status is "started" and
that start type is "automatic". I see that Logical Disk Manager
Administrative Service is set to Manual. When I go into Bois the drive
is listed. I don't know what you mean when you say, "D & CDrom may be
set to Not Installed." I have AMIBIOS version 1002.002, a P4P800-E
Deluxe motherboard and a P4 2.8 Ghz.
