- Data on DVD
- Posted by blarney@optonline.net on September 28th, 2005
I want to save my data files on my DVD burner drive and be able to
edit and change them from the DVD disc. What are some good software
programs to use to do this? I have Roxio Easy CD & DVD now and it
seems difficult to use for this purpose.
Thank you.

You cannot do what you want to do.
You can use a DVD-/+RW to write data to over and over again, but you cannot
edit those files. By default, any file written to an optical device becomes
read only.
You have to save your files to the DVD. When you need to change the file,
you will need to copy it to your hard drive, edit the file, and then save
the edited file back to your DVD-/+RW.
You can overwrite the older version of the file with the new file, but you
cannot edit it directly on the DVD.

With DVD + / - RWs or DVD-RAM disks, you can do exactly that, if you look
at Roxio Drag to CD (equavalent to Ahead's InCD).

The UDF file system, which, as Yves says, is used by Roxio's
Drag-to-Disk and Nero's Incd (Sonic also has a version, which is (was?)
available free) will do what you require.

No question is difficult if you know the answer.
