deactivate xp pro registration
Posted by tropek on November 11th, 2005

I want to change my product key on my xp pro. it's already activated. I
tried to deactivate it by using the registry.

1. Run regedit and go to:
HKey_Local_Machine\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\Cu rrent
Version\WPAEvents, on the right double click
on "oobetimer" and change at least one digit of this value
to deactivate windows.

I tried this and it does not deactivate it.

when i run %systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a
it still says windows alredy avtivated.

What else can I do or what am I doin' wrong?

I believe that method only worked for Volume Licensed ("corporate")
versions of XP. You probably need to do a repair install to change the
key.
