Dealing with Adobe FlashPlayer
Posted by PT on April 18th, 2008

I have a love-hate relationship with this program. Nineteen times out of
twenty, it annoys me by superposing inane commercial videos over web pages
I'm trying to read. But the twentieth time I want to watch a specific video
which I've selected.

I've tried the nuclear option - uninstalling the program, then reinstalling
it for the "twentieth" situations. But that's a royal pain. So I'm
wondering if there's a way to simply prevent it from loading except when I
want it.

Please advise

Hi,
Assuming, since you posted to so many XP newsgroups, that the OS is XP...

Try EMS Freesurfer Companion from
http://www.emsproject.com/FS This program makes it fairly to disable/enable
Flash.

Hope this helps,

If you use Firefox as your browser, there is a nifty extension you may
use called Flashblock.

For Internet Explorer, I recommend TurnFlash:

You might want to try Firefox with NoScript add on (and maybe AdBlock Plus).

And the best solution is . . . . . .

IE7Pro
http://www.ie7pro.com/

"IE7Pro is a must have add-on for Internet Explorer, which includes a
lot of features and tweaks to make your IE friendlier, more useful,
secure and customizable. IE7Pro includes Tabbed Browsing Management,
Spell Check, Inline Search, Super Drag Drop, Crash Recovery, Proxy
Switcher, Mouse Gesture, Tab History Browser, Web Accelerator, User
Agent Switcher, Webpage Capturer, AD Blocker, Flash Block, Greasemonkey
like User Scripts platform, User Plug-ins and many more power packed
features. You can customize not just Internet Explorer, but even your
favourite website according to your need and taste using IE7Pro."

Check it out, it does it all. With Flash, if you select to "Turn off
Flash" any Flash that appears has a "Show Flash" clickable link inside
the Flash box. The best solution.

Hello,

Another solution is Quero, which allows you to easily toggle Flash on or
off:

I use Avant which is a 3rd party freeware shell for IE. It has numerous
enhancements, inlcuding a flash blocker, that can be toggled from the menu
or you can add a button to toggle it. Avant can be found here:

The ads drove me nuts too what I do is click tools , manage add-ons ,Enable
or disable add-ons then disable shockwave flash
This works for Vista or XP
For the times you want flash working just enable it again.
As ju.c says IE7Pro is good but I have found some adds still get past it
well worth having though as it has lots of good features
