- Default Printer and user settings have changed automatically???
- Posted by William Stokes on March 13th, 2006
Hello,
We have a few users that say that their default printer has changed
automatically and the text size in IE has also been changed from normal to
large. Is this possible and what circumstances can cause this? My personal
experience tells me that in most cases the only error is between the chair
and keyboard but I want to look in to this anyway...
I would be intrested to know if similar stuff has happened to someone else
and have you found out the reasons?
We are using WinXP SP2. Users have normal user privileges to their
workstations. We also have MS Office XP, Lotus Notes R6 and some other not
generally known applications. The default printer is not set in users logon
scripts at the moment.
Thanks

If I read your post correctly, you are asking if this sort of thing can
happen automatically. The answer is that this sort of thing can happen
when something is broken but it is not normal. The size of IE text can
change if the user holds down Ctrl + mouse scroll wheel but I've never
seen a printer change "all by itself".
I second your opinion to look at what the users are doing. Check in
Accessibility Options to see if anything has been activated, look for
malware. See what the default printer was changed *to* and possibly
that will give a clue. Perhaps the users tried to print to something
and/or clicked "yes" to something.
I'm afraid that there just isn't enough information to be more specific.

You understood me perfectly. I tested the Ctrl+scroll and that propably
explains the text size change in IE. If have to investigate further this
printing issue.
Thanks
