- Defualt Admin password?
- Posted by HotRod on December 23rd, 2005
I have just done a complete recovery of my Acer Notebook but there seems to
be problems with it so I thought I'd try to repair the problem with a
Windows XP Recovery Console but it wants the administrator password. Since I
just did a complete re-install the old password isn't working any idea what
the default password might be? Leaving it blank doesn't work...

Try this:
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/
Good luck and please post back with results.

hey hotrod,
the new administrator password would be the one that you entered during
setup while performing the reinstall.

Unfortunately when I used the recovery CDs there was not a prompt to set the
password. Using Steve's link I used the password remover CD only to discover
that the administrator password was blank. I needed to set a password with
the "remover" instead of deleting one. Sometimes common sense just doesn't
work, why the heck would the recovery console not work with a blank
password??? Now that I have the recovery console it still isn't working but
that another problem. I keep getting the command prompt.

Ok, I think you may be a bit confused, once you login to Windows in
Recovery Console the command prompt is what you get. It doesn't do
anything by itself, you must enter commands. Check this out:
