- deleting a file with access denied message
- Posted by Shaun on April 17th, 2008
How do I force delete a file, what program can I get to do this. I know
that I could cause a system crash doing this, but I can't find out what
other program is accessing it to shut it down.
thanks,
Shaun

Reboot the machine in Safe Mode, then rename the problem
file. This is much safer than deleting it, although it may still
prevent your machine from restarting if you succeed in
deleting a Windows key file.

some files if forced
deleted can crash your
system. in which case
you would need to do
a system restore or a
repair install.
you care to share the
filename?

Also you can right click on "My Computer" click on
Manage
System Tools
Shared Folders
Open Files
This will show you if anything actively has its hooks in anywhere.

i'm hoping that somebody can help me with a trojan horse i picked up. i've
tried everything: scans, deleting everything connected with it minus 1
file...explain in a sec, sys restores, restore deletes. anyways i now have
the file a.v.g. keeps telling me its in and that is
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\agl 17.sys. when i go to run> sys32 > drivers >
agl17 and try tpo delet it it denies me, after some searching i found a tool
called "unlocker 1.8.7" which was supposed to open the file and possibly
enable me to delet it. well when i right clicked on the file then used
unlocker it came back saying it couldn't find a locking handle, but it can
help and to choose an action. now it has a scroll box with only 1 choice -to
do nothing or quit!! so i still have the file with the trojan horse. could u
please help me.
p.s. the trojan horse is called Scagent.T and or Ntrootkit.Am, i've seen
both while dealing with this, but the scagent is what pops up with the a.v.g.

I once had a file that couldn't be deleted because it was "being used by
another program".
I finally booted to windows safe mode "with prompt". del then worked on the
rogue file.
