- Dell XP Oem - disconnects from 2000 server resources
- Posted by iching.itech@gmail.com on December 7th, 2005
I am a network admin who supports about 70 clients connecting to 3
windows 2000 servers. About a quarter of them are running the Dell XP
pro OEM. I have a mixture of 2000 pro, Win 98, and XP full versions.
Only the Dell XP pro OEM disconnect periodically from network resources
such as our exchange server and network shares. The only way to fix
the problem is to log off and log back on. Does anyone know what
causes this and how to fix it? These PCs disconnect about 2x a day and
its affecting production.

Dell places a lot of "specialised" programs onto their PCs. If you have
checked the network adapters/cables, then you may have to wipe the Dell PCs
and re-install XP.
BTW: If you are managing 70 + PCs, you really should look at get Volume
License Agreement version of XP Pro. This should insure that all your PCs
will all be configured the same way: YOUR WAY! I would not ely on OEMs
configurations.
