I've recently reformatted my hard drive and installed XP Pro with all the
required updates and I am now experiencing what I think is a ridiculous
amount of DEP issues. Since this new install, practically every time I try
and rename a file from the desktop the DEP pops up and intrudes in my life. I
am simply renaming files and not using any background programs so I cannot
figure what is the problem. Unfortunately in their vast wisdom MS has made it
more difficult to find a way of disabling this new feature. Personally I
think it is a waste, I never needed it before and now this thing has become
the bane of my existence. Can any provide insight as to how to disable this
thing because it has escalated to beyond nuisance.

If it's so bad for you, edit your boot.ini to turn it off.

Change the noexecute=OptIn to noexecute=AlwaysOff
