- Posted by cy on October 6th, 2005
i have just completed a system recovery and ever since my desktop icons are
quite far apart, before i could move them close to each other but now i cant
move them anywhere near each other, i know its a bit of a daft question but
its starting to annoy me. Any ideas? any help would be great! Thanks in
advance!

Right-click the desktop. Under "Arrange icons by" De-select "Auto arrange".

In addition to the "auto-arrange" setting that Hugh mentioned:
right-click the desktop, choose "Properties". Click the "Appearance"
tab. Click the "Advanced" button. Now drop-down the "Item:" list and
check out the "Icon Spacing (Horizontal)" and "Icon Spacing(Vertical)"
settings.
