Desktop.ini and default views
Posted by jezzica85 on November 29th, 2007

Hi everybody,
I've been trying to teach myself how to use Desktop.ini to customize
folders, and I've run into a couple snags; I was hoping somebody here could
help me out, since I have 3 questions.

A little background on what I'm doing first -- I'm making a CD for a backup,
and it will have multiple folders on it. I'd like to have my CD be able to
open automatically in Thumbnail view, and have each folder display its
appropriate thumbnail, from an image that is also in a folder on that CD. I
am actually not sure if Desktop.ini will handle all this or if something else
must be done, so any clarification on that would be helpful too. So, my
questions are these:

1. How can I tell a particular CD to open in thumbnail view when you first
put it in the drive? The folders inside of those initial ones, I'd like to
have as tiles.

2. How can you format infotips that first level only, so it only shows a tip
you specify, not the files, folders, and size? All the folders within the
outermost level, the default is fine.

3. If all this must be done with Desktop.ini, is there any way to make one
big Desktop.ini file, which controls all the folders with relative filepaths,
so the CD isn't clogged with lots of little files?

If anyone could answer any of these questions, or point me in the right
direction to answer them, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you!
