- Desktop Shortcut Problem
- Posted by Teresa on January 3rd, 2008
When I was adding a shortcut to my desktop for an Excel document I accidently
dragged the original file out and now I can not access the file at all. I
get the following error message. “Excel cannot access “Bill Info.xls”.
Document may be read-only or encrypted. When you click on OK it displays -
Cannot access “Bill Info.xls” again. I’ve tried taking with tech support
from Dell, but they could not help me. Can someone tell me how to undo this
problem or how to access the file?

I would have been very surprised if Dell support had been
able to help you. Dell sells PCs and laptops - your problem
is a Windows or an Excel problem. I suspect that you overwrote
the original "Bill Info.xls" with something else. What is the size
of this file? Can you restore it from backup?

For some reason I'm having creating shortcuts, because I tried putting
another one on the desktop but it will not let me. The file is only 21kb,
and I can not restore if from backup. I tried restoring the system with no
luck. I'm to the point of trying to recreat the document.

With a size of 21 kBytes it could be a spreadsheet - can't tell without
examining it in detail. It's probably best to recreate it.
