Device or application disabled
Posted by Serge Myrand on January 28th, 2006

Hi everyones,

I tried to install my Win 98 Easy CD creator version on my XP pro. I
probably did not take the time to read the windows compatibility warning
and continue the installation! Since that time I removed Easy CD Creator
from XP but I still have problems when using my CD for burning. Now at
start-up I get the following message:

Device or applicaiton messages
"CD recording Software" will cause Windows
to become unstable. Windows has prevented
these drivers from loading.

The details, are to get the compatible drivers from Roxio or windows, I
do not want to re-install Easy CR creator.
I would like to remove the faulty drivers and use the embedded burning
capabilities of Win XP Pro.

What should I do to solve that problem?

thank you for your time
serge

The solution is probaly as simple as removing a registry
entry, but which one? This is the kind of solution I look for.

thany you anyway

#1 Read the documentation. 98 compatible programs are
typically NOT compatible with XP Pro programs.

Particularly with burning software, they are not backward
compatible.

I have probably had to toss 20 disks or more that I burned
in Easy and Roxio that aren't compatible with Nero 6 (what
you should be using, at a MINIMUM).

#2 Try to do a system restore.
If you have installed a program that has made your system
unstable (broken),

shame on you!
You DO get warnings about such! You have chosen to ignore
them!

You will likely have to backup (hopefully, you at LEAST do
regular backups),

and the SAFE bet is to

#3 Reinstall Windows XP, and THEN install a decent burning
software, like

Nero 6, which you can get from Amazon.com for $5.

Good luck
