This Device cannot start (Code 10)
Posted by phil on October 5th, 2005

Hi

I've got a Firewire-PCI-Card. Since I reinstalled WinXP (incl. SP2), it can
not be started. Any chance to fix this problem without deinstalling SP2?
Before I reinstalled the OS, the card worked fine, even with SP2 (the
difference: last time, I installed the card before SP2) - very confusing!

thanks lot for help

Code 10
[[If the device has a FailReasonString value in its hardware key, that
string appears as the error message. The driver or enumerator puts this
registry string value there. If there is no FailReasonString in the hardware
key, you receive the following error message:

This device cannot start. (Code 10)

Recommended resolution
Device failed to start. Click Update Driver to update the drivers for this
device. On the General Properties tab of the device, click Troubleshoot to
start the Troubleshooting Wizard. ]]

I have this same problem. I went through the trouble shooter and tried
everything except physically removing the device. I uninstalled and
reinstalled the device and it tells me that I have a problem with the device.
I updated the driver and it didn't find a new one. I went to the
manufacturers site to try and find a new one and there isn't one listed. Any
other ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Cris,
Please start your own thread, no one knows what "device" you are talking
about.
