- Dialup disconnection warning

I have a dialup connection. Initially, now and then, I'll get a warning
asking me whether I wanted to stay connected. I checked a box there,
thinking that it would not ask me again and it would remain connected
until I would disconnect. Now, however, it disconnects without asking
me. How can it make it not to disconnect by itself? Or, alternatively,
how can I make the warning appear again? -emf

Go to: Start>Control Panel>Network and Internet Connections>Internet
Options>Connections>Settings>Advanced, then make sure that both 'Disconnect'
boxes are un-checked.

their dialup connections. This means if you're online but not actually
using the connection they will kick you off for being idle after a set

their modems free for new dialup connections - they don't want current
dialup users hogging the modems unless they are actually using them.
You should be able to confirm whether or not your ISP does this from
your "member services" page or the like, or in a forum specifically for
users of your ISP. If your ISP has this policy, you may want to
download and run one of the many "keep alive" programs available on the
Net.

Still I wouldn't mind having the disconnection notification back. It
should be triggered by the ISP, however there should be something in
Windows XP that reacts to the trigger, because the notification
reappeared on my new computer - there was no notification on the old
computer (though there might have been a long time ago...). -emf
