- Difference in the 2 methods of adding an XP machine to a domain

Can someone tell me what is the difference in adding an XP computer to a
domain by running the network ID wizard or selecting the change button?
Why sometimes the wizard fails? And why you normally have to attribute the
domain name and the computer name in two separate moments, while if you do
this together one of the two fails?
