Direct Hardware access with a virtualy win98 intallation
Posted by Eric NRC on October 3rd, 2005

The question is very simple. In WINXP If a install Virtual PC and then WIN98
on it do anyone here could tell me; on these virtual WIN98 would it be
possible directly access my hardware like it was possible on a reel WIN98.
Because I presently work in a lab and my instrument is connected with a card
in an old ISA slot which the driver is the software it seft. It mean the
software speek directly to the hardware ! But I would like to be able to
migrate on WINXP. But WINXP does not let the software speek directly to my
hardware! Then today I found Virtual PC like potential solution
and I really wonder if it could work or not?

Virtual PC won't work for you because it emulates a specific set of
hardware. It doesn't address the real physical hardware you have in
your computer. The solution for you is to keep a computer running Win98
for the program you need or contact the instrument's mftr. and see if
there is an updated program/hardware for XP.
