- directory enumeration error with XP Home
- Posted by jm7 on February 13th, 2006
I can't access my C Drive and I can't boot into XP on the C Drive. If I
boot with the XP Boot disk and go to repair - I get the error message re:
Directory enumeration. Does this mean the disk has crashed?
I can't even access the C Drive when I boot up from a BART PE Disk.
Do i have to do a re-format?
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Sounds like a corrupted file system or partition. There may be little you
can do besides remove it and create a new one. Before you go to any geat
lengths, I would recommend that you download and run a drive diagnostic from
the drive manufacturer.

In recovery console try the following to see if the file system can be
recovered.
This will take some time. Type chkdsk /r and hit enter.
Its either going to come up with unrecoverable errors or fix the situation.
Let us know.

Thanks very much beb and Ron.
I tried Recovery console with an WIN XP Pro disk (the Home one was just a
full recovery CD only)
did the chkdsk c: /r
and all works fine now. Think the files were corrupted as the battery in
the notebook has failed and the computer kept switching off.
Thanks again.
