- Disabling CD Burner function is XP Pro....
- Posted by bigddy9 on November 16th, 2005
I need to disable the CD burner function in XP Pro. I have 700 PC's to
build in a call center and we have proprietary apps that require the
disabling of teh CD burning funtion in XP. I still need to have the CD
ROM capabilities functional, just the burning function disabled. Is
there a registry punch that I can use to achieve this? Replacing teh
burners with ROM's is not an option as we purchase PC in bulk and they
come with a CDRW. Any help is appreciated.

I believe Group Policy could be set up on these machines to disable that.
In other words if they are not in a Domain anything you do could be undone.

Disable the service, the service is called "IMAPI CD-Burning COM
Service".
