- Disk Accelerator Pro defragger for XP
- Posted by Ken Gardner on October 15th, 2005
Has anyone tried it? If so, what do you think of it? How does it compare to
Diskeeper or Perfectdisk? And where can I find a comprehensive review of
this product? TIA.

Three things about it seem a little questionable.
1. Naming it an Accelerator - anybody with an understanding of
fragmentation wouldn't title a defrag program using that descriptor
2. Bonus software for purchasing - Usually a bonus software package
is to make it more appealing or seem a better value.
3. It claims better defragmenting than the XP native defrag tool and
not against industry leaders Diskeeper and Raxco.
Know nothing about it other than the product spec I pulled up
from the vendor. Although it did seem to offer specific file placement
options that go beyond the Prefetch or date ordering.
ZD gave it an Editors Choice, but that's probably bought with a few
dinners at Ruth's Chris Steakhouse.

XP's defragmenter is a hosed down version of retail Diskeeper. Guessing
prior to version 7.
Get alot of email advertising from them, lotsa hooplah about making
everything run faster blah, blah, blah.
After all's said and done, makes no difference what defragmenter does that
job, as long as its done once in awhile. Don't know anyone foolish enough
to buy more than one defragmenter program, if bought at all. So comparisons
you're asking for will not be subjective, only far-off observationally
objective. Personally was foolish enough to buy Diskeeper (home)version 8,
now they're trying to sell me version 9. See no improvement over the other
in the home version, but they keep trying.

Thanks. I put no stock in the ZDNET rating or the "bonus software." I
didn't find any comparative with Diskeeper or Perfectdisk either. But the
description at the Nova website reflects that it may be similar to O&O.

It is actually an OEM'd version of O&O Defrag.
