Hello,
A few days ago I ran Disk Cleanup and deleted all the files that popped up,
including the ones that weren't checked by default. Since then, my computer
(a T30 running Windows XP) has been unable to go into standby. Specifically,
when I try to go to standby the system hangs on the Windows screen saying
"Preparing to stand by," but it never actually goes to sleep, although the
hard drive does stop whirring.
Is it possible that when I deleted the files that I deleted something
essential to going into standby? I've read on different boards that
out-of-date video card drivers might be the problem (I've got an ATI Radeon
7500), but if the cause was Disk Cleanup (which of course may have just been
coincidental timing) would that effect drivers?

taskmgr to see what's running when you try to stand by? Perhaps there's a
conflict with something there.....might try closing all programs & stopping
anything that isn't directly OS related and manually stand by, to see if
*that* works.

Thanks for your quick reply. A couple of follow-up questions:
-- taskmgr = Windows Task Manager; i.e., the thing that pops up when I hit
ctrl+alt+del, right?
-- Everything that's running should show up in Applications, right? So if
nothing is in that list then nothing is running? Do I need to look in
Processes also?
-- What is manual standby? Does that mean [start], [turn off computer],
[stand by]?
