- Disk Defragmenter won't Analyze or Defragment
- Posted by Abnermality6974 on February 27th, 2006
I've done SFC /SCANNOW w/ XP disk. I've registered both dll's. I rebooted.
I tried right clicking dfrg.inf in C:\WINDOWS\inf, but it doesn't give me the
option to install, nor in right clicking on an .ini file either like it used
to do. I can open Disk Defragmenter with absolutely no problem, but when I
click on either Analyze or Defragment, absolutely nothing happens. With no
errors or actions of any kind to work with, how am I supposed to be able to
fix this problem? I'm at a loss. I could use some real help here.

Nothing happens when clicking on Defragment or analyze.
Defrag with XP SP2 needs the DCOM Server Process Launcher service running.
Click Start, Run and type SERVICES.MSC
Double-click the DCOM Server Process Launcher service
Set it's startup type to "Automatic"
Restart Windows.

DCOM Server Process Launcher is/was already running and already set to
Automatic. What's next? *hoping SOMETHING works*

Does "defrag.exe" run from the command prompt:

A command-line window opens.
Type in:
defrag c:
hit Enter
Does C: drive get defragmented? If so you can literally script regular
defragmentations so you never need look at the thing again.
