Do I Need to Install Visual Basic Runtime 5 / 6 ?
Posted by Talahasee on February 15th, 2006

I have been installing Visual Basic Runtime 5 and 6 with
each install for some time now.

Perhaps 10 years?

When I began to use XP Pro some 3 years ago, I continue to
load VB 5 and 6.

Is that necessary?

I certainly don't want to install stuff I don't need.

Good luck!

If you use any packages, that were designed with Visual Basic 5, or Visual
Basic 6, then yes, otherwise no.

You may well run across an application that requires them. Also compared to
something like the .net framework, they take up a pretty minimal amount of
space.

Visual Basic.

I happen to not be that literate.

OTOH,

as you said-- and my original thought- the two routines are
so tiny that they can't possibly take up much space, plus at
LEAST the VB 6 is the runtime version.

Since I am currently running on 512 Mb RAM, and I am
planning on installing another 512 in the near future, I
don't see it being an issue.

I suppose it doesn't hurt to load them.

Thanks!
