Does System Restore wipe out updates?
Posted by JZ on October 27th, 2005

Had to do a System Restore because new RealPlayer 10.5 wouldn't play a fave
vid. System restore gave me back my RealPlayer 8, but... now I'm worried
that I might have wiped out desirable stuff. Does Sys Restore roll back the
computer even to the extent that any Win Updates, virus definition downloads,
and various anti-spyware program updates that I did after the Restore date
ALSO get wiped out?

thanks,
Judy

JZ,

YES! Everything is restored to the way it was when the restore program made
a system checkpoint.

Hi Judy,

System Restore was not designed to install and uninstall applications
and should not be used to do so. Did you uninstall RP 10.5 before
restoring the system? Does RP 8 work correctly?

Virus definitions should not be touched by a restore.

Any applications installed after the restore point was created will
loose there files monitored by System Restore. It's best to uninstall
any applications that were installed after the restore point you are
restoring to.

Here is a list of Files and Folders System Restore Monitors.
