- Does Windows XP have a CD-Writer?
- Posted by JThug69420 on January 5th, 2006
I was just wandering if my Windows XP has a CD-Writer on it cause someone
told me that Windows XP has a CD-Writer already installed. So i was just
wandering if Windows XP does have one or not?

Windows XP includes a CD Recording program, but it
only works if you have the proper CD-R or CD-RW
drive installed.

If it's really a ROM (read-only media) it isn't a CD burner. If you look in
control panel, system, hardware, device manager, what do you see listed
under CD? You might check with your hardware manufacturer to see what you've
got - you could easily buy & install a CD burner.

it does not matter if you a blank cd on your CDROM drive
You must have a CD-ReWritable drive in order to use
the CD Recording Wizard.

Yes, XP has the ability to write to CD-R and CD-RW (CD-RW are treated as
CD-R). See this link for info:

Are you asking about hardware or software? A cd burner is a piece of
hardware. Yes, XP has built-in software to burn CD's, but you must have the
necessary hardware - a CD-RW drive.

am i correct? Underneath the CD-ROM drive its looks the same as the CD-ROM
drive but doesnt do anything its not labeled or anything its just there it
doesn't open or close. So with just a CD-ROM drive i can't write songs to a
