- Don't want Windows to automatically install updates
- Posted by MaryL on January 9th, 2006
I had Windows set so that I would be notified whenever updates were
available. I always waited 2 or 3 days and then downloaded and installed
updates. That way, my computer was "almost" up-to-date but I had a little
lead time in case some glitches were confirmed (as has occasionally
happened). Without warning of any changes, Windows automatically updated
this morning. My guess is that the previous update probably included a
command to do this. It is not what I want! How can I return to my previous
procedure, where the little yellos shield would appear in the taskbar
informing me that updates are available -- but would *not* take over my
computer and install without my intervention?
Thanks,
MaryL

Control Panel,
Security Centre,
Automatic Updates,
Tick the radio button "Download updates for me, but let me choose when to
install them.
