- DOS command window sometimes limits to directory read of 8 characters..
- Posted by Gordon J. Rattray on January 14th, 2006
Hi there,
I have 2 Win XP Pro machines and one of them when I go to a DOS command
prompt window, it will do a directory read of C:\documents and
settings\gordon\local settings.
In the second machine, it will only do C:\docume~1\gordon and go no further
than that.
What is the difference in the setup of these machines? I would like to set
the 2nd machine up to do the same as the first in the DOS command window.
Thanks,
Gordon

Use cmd.exe not command.com.

cmd.exe is running. I.e. Start | Run Type: cmd | Click OK
cmd.exe is the Windows Command Processor (Command Prompt).

command.com is running. I.e. Start | Run Type: command | Click OK
command.com is the MS-DOS Prompt
