- Drive letter assignment
- Posted by Jimbo on October 28th, 2005
I'm running XP HE SP2.
After formatting and reinstalling XP today, all my drive letters have been
re-assigned - how can I change them? Do I have to go into the BIOS in order
to do this?
Many thanks.

Are you ready ?. Then I`ll begin. Rt\click My Computer\Manage \Disk
Management.
They should all show there. If you want to swop two over, you will have to
move 1 drive letter to make room for the other first, then put in the letter
for the second.
You can go down as far as Z.
best wishes..OJ

Right click on 'My Computer', select 'manage', then select 'disk management',
right click on the drive and go to 'change drive letter'

When installing XP you should disconnect all non-essential drives and
storage devices, at most have only Floppy, CDROM and one hard disk
connected. After the install you can then connect your other drives and
the drive letter assignments should line up "normally".

Doing this, you can change the letters of all drives *except* the one
Windows is installed on. Since he says "all my drive letters have been
re-assigned," chances are that the letter he most wants to change is the one
he can't.
