I have posted this to the Tyan NG but so far have not had any response
(all had too good a Christmas lunch perhaps<G>) and as this is urgent I
am taking the liberty of posting here now in case there are any SCSI
experts who may be able to help me.
This machine was built for me a couple of weeks ago for very fast
Photoshop work, however the firm that put it together said that I would
need to re-install the operating systems on this dual boot XP32 and XP64
system as they had in error NOT been placed it on the "0" drive! It
has to be said that whilst some Photoshop operations were really fast
there were some strange things happening that I was not happy about.
Yesterday I altered the boot.ini file to try to get XP32 to use 3GB of
the 6G's of installed ram, however on re-booting, although Windows got
to the start screen without any difficulty the button to let me go on
would not function.....safe mode did not help and I was stuck. This
then seemed like a pretty good excuse for re-installing both OS's on the
correct drive<G> OK that is the brief history.
This system uses the Tyan S2895 main board and has four Seagate SCSI 15K
320 drives and one large SATA drive. The only other drives being a
CD/DVD drive and a floppy drive. I started up with the XP Pro 32 CD in
the drive and was surprised that when I got to where I would choose
where I wanted to place the OS to be only offered the SATA drive, none
of the other drives was showing up although at boot up these were seen
by the BIOS.
I then disconnected all the drives apart from the SCSI drive to try and
force the system to find the drive. I had removed the jumpers so that
it would be treated as the "0" drive. Previously none of the drives had
been jumpered as the "0" drive. The drive was correctly seen at boot up
time as the "0" drive but when I got to the drive selection part no
drives were showing up! Please guys if you have the stomach for
computer issues today please can you give me some advise as to how I
should continue?
Many thanks
Richard
