My DVD and CD R/W drives have both stopped working. DVD drive says "D:\ is
not accessible. Incorrect function." CD R/W will show the contents of a
CD-ROM if the CD is in the drive when I boot (although it won't show the
CD-ROM ID in the My computer screen), but if I insert a new CD it will see
that there is a disc, but show that Free space and total size are both Zero,
and show no files.

I have checked all the drivers and uninstalled and reinstalled the drives
and the IDE controller to no avail. I even changed the IDE cable! Any ideas?

I have now also tried a different CD drive in place of teh DVD drive with
exactly the same results. I've seen other people with drive problems
reinstall windows. It sounds a bit drastic, but could this help?
