errors: photos in email; show desktop icon; screen resolution
Posted by Judi on November 3rd, 2005

Recently had new hard drives installed and OS reinstalled. Using Windows XP
Pro & Outlook 2002.

PROBLEM #1) I am trying to "send photo in email" but keep getting a message,
"Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close." It doesn't
matter if I try "send smaller size" or "keep original size"...still get the
same error message.

I have rebooted the computer several times over a few days...same error
message.

PROBLEM #2) I have the Quick Launch toolbar open but the "show desktop" icon
is not there. How can I get it to appear? It is something that I use a lot.

PROBLEM #3) My screen resolution is set to 800 x 600. Whenever I try to
change it to 1024 x 768, the screen goes black for a short period of time and
then returns to 800 x 600.

Any suggestions to correct these problems?

For #2 run the edit on Kelly's site
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line 61: Restore/Add Show Desktop to Quick Launch Bar

See the top of the page for info on running the edit.

Thanks, Rock. It worked.

Can anyone else answer my other two questions?

For #1, what email client? Can you send emails correctly without an
attachment? What format pictures are you trying to send?

For #2 - Install drivers for your video card. Get them from:

1. The card mftr.'s website; OR
2. The motherboard mftr.'s website if hardware is onboard; OR
3. The OEM's website for your specific machine if you have an OEM
computer (HP, Dell, Sony, etc.).

Read the installation instructions on the website where you get the
drivers.

Screen resolution won't change to an unsupported resolution,
update the video driver and make sure that the monitor is
listed by name in the device manager/graphics properties.
