In short, I want to disable and discontinue any file associations or use of
ATI file player. The file player was hijacking and hogging ALL of the file
associations for multimedia and refused to even play some of the files. Thus,
Windows Media Player was my intended fall back program.

In sum:
1. Tried to open an audio file on the internet:

20Recital%20Hall%2C%20Vol.%

I need your help. Play any of these songs on your own computer. See if it
works. Secondly, try to save target, and see what type of file it's going to
save it as.

utility to Windows Media Player.

3. Uninstalled ATI file player.

4. File did not play when tried again. Got error message:
C:\documents...\temporary internet files\content.ie5\xznj9do6\hur[1].asx
Invalid Menu Handle

5. Tried to play audio files in other websites, and worked fine.

6. Realized that by saving target of original file, it was saving it as an
"ATI file player" type -- whatever that extension is.

7. Tried to save as name.mp3. Didn't work. Apparently will only save as ati
file player type.

All I want to do is shift everything to windows media player and throw ATI
file player/multimedia center in the purge cemetary.

Please help.

You can go into Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types
and delete each entry.

Or you can open a CMD window and type in:
ASSOC <file extension>= <enter>
to remove them as they come, then assign it with the ASSOC command or
browse for the program when asked.

ASSOC /? <enter> for details

The files there are NOT media files, they are ASX files.

The first one for example in notepad looks like this.

So you need to have the file extension ASX associated with media player and
changing the extension to .mp3 won't do you any good at all. You never
download the music, it is "Streamed" from the website so can only be used
with a capable player.

See if I make a link of that you should be able to listen with media player
just the same by pasting it into your browser.
