File share asks for password
Posted by denglish48060@gmail.com on February 26th, 2006

Computer and a Laptop, both with identical installations of WXP SP2,
one file shares, the other doesn't.

Password fields where left blank on both for now.

When computer accessed the laptop, the window asked for a password
where the user name consisted of "laptop name/registered users name"
and just by hitting enter with no password it worked well.

Trying to access the computer from the laptop, the window pops up with
"computers name/guest". With no password entered, it wouldn't file
share..

The only difference I can see is the user name drop down refers to
"comp name/guest" and is greyed out and cant be changed.

In the computer under control userpassowrds2, there is no Guest listed
and when trying to add one, says there is a Guest user already.

Any suggestions please.

Thanks, Where do I turn off Simple File Sharing?

One other quick question, I am in control userpasswords2 and have
listed 3 user names. Admin, David and Guest.

When I log off as Administrator, I don't see David, just Admin & Guest
The user name David is not on the log on screen and is my main set up.

Going to Control Panel > User Accounts, doesn't show David there
either.

Suggestions please...
