- finding duplicate files
- Posted by DianaH on February 12th, 2006
Is there a utility that finds duplicate file names, those of the same type
and date. I have a bazillion files, from doing backups etc. and I'd like to
eliminate the dups. Does anyone know of a utility that looks for them, then
allows "me" to decide which ones to blast.
Thanks.

There are lots of utilities. There are different abilities for different programs, and you can find many here or here will show you *many* other places to look.

Please use Google before posting to Usenet.
You can find almost anything a lot quicker
that way.

Microsoft's dupfinder compares duplicates by CRC which may result in
false duplicates, NoClone compares duplicates by true byte-by-byte
comparison to ensure they are identical, see
http://support.reasonablesw.com/forums/94/ShowPost.aspx .
In addition, NoClone has a time-saving Smart Marker which helps to
filter duplicates for removal and archival.http://noclone.net
