- Folder Options incomplete, shows only File Types and Offline Files [File Types & Offline Files only tabs shown]

When I open Control Panel\Folder Options only the tabs for File Types and
Offline Files. How can I recover the missing General and View Tabs?

If nobody comes up with a better answer, take this stab in the dark:
There are several Registry keys that contain policies like:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Explorer
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Inte rnet
Explorer\Control Panel
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Int ernet
Explorer\Control Panel
The last two only concern IE, but if "GeneralTab" with a value of 1 in
those exists, then the General Tab is hidden in Control Panel-Internet
Options.
There may be the same in one of the other keys or keys I don't have
listed above.
Try opening Regedit (Start-Run-Regedit) and searching for GeneralTab
and report back. (Maybe the other one is ViewTab)

What do you mean by "this tab"?
Did you misunderstand me?
Are you sure you looked for a value called "GeneralTab" and had a
checkmark in the Values box when you searched using Edit-Find or
Ctrl+F?

OK. Try this and see if you can figure what Registry key is being
accessed at the time:
Regmon: http://www.sysinternals.com/
It takes a little getting used to, but it should find the key if you
persist.

I have installed the tool and identified the key as:

but it is not apparent what I should change.

There are a large amount of subkeys under that key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Advanced\Folder
I see only 4 entries directly under it, but if it is in one of the
subkeys, you may have to supply an export for me to compare it with
mine. My export of that key is 266 lines, so you might consider
emailing me your export and I can find out what is causing it.
If you are happy doing that, export the key by ensuring the highlight
is on the key in the left-hand pane, right-click it, select Export and
save as type: "Registration Files (*.reg) and call it Uncle-John.reg
and email it as an attachment. (Not embedded in the body of the email)
You may have to zip it if your email program complains about sending a
..reg file.
This is the key in question in mine (without the subkeys)

The "Bitmap" value will look different in Regedit. Mine shows in
Regedit as: %SystemRoot%\system32\SHELL32.dll,4
I suspect the problem is in one of the subkeys, but check out the
above first to see if yours is different.

Here is the file compressed as folder Options.rar. It will unzip to folder
options.reg However I fear the problem is not in this key because Folder
options is controlled by shell32.dll.

To what point? You said two tabs don't show not that the Advanced options are incomplete. It's tab is missing there so you wouldn't know. But we have no idea why you've chosen this key as your problem. Lots of keys appear in regmon.

Alan suggested that I use Regmon to identify the key that referenced Folder
Options and send him a copy.
You may be right that it will not solve the problem!

Everyone knows the key name. Why would you use regmon. Everyone knows how to fix it. I just don't know why you choose this key. You'd expect this key to be accessed. It'sa like saying the hard drive light is on so any problems mnust be the hard drive.
A lot more than this key is being accessed as well. So are we to assume that there is no reason to suspect this key.
